Please join us for our inaugural meeting of the 2014-2015 season!
The concept of lean in the construction industry is not a new one when we think of lean as simply to efficiently run projects or if we think of lean as doing pull schedules versus traditional scheduling coupled with best practices.
These are all good things that I believed myself prior to working on my first "true lean project." The differences between this type of lean project and other projects that I have been on that say they are operating as a lean project are glaring.
What is a "true lean" construction project at the core?
When marketing lean construction it is important to demonstrate an understanding of what true lean construction is. Joining the Lean Construction Institute is only a start on the lean journey for anyone with the fortitude to start the journey. As owners become more versed in true lean project culture they will be demanding to see demonstrable evidence of what and how any team purposing on these projects will deliver a lean project and produce such a collaborative approach and contract that supports this type of lean behavior through design and construction.
Learning objectives:
- What are Lean practices?
- Why are they important to A/E/C firms and your clients?

About the Speaker
Mr. Perry Thompson leads the Lean initiative as well as being a Division Manager at Parsons Electric. Parsons was recently ranked as the 25th largest electrical and technology contractor in the U.S. according to EC&M magazine. Perry's interest in construction began with his family's tradition of construction in carpentry and masonry. He started as an intern working as a laborer and carpenter for a small firm in1974. In 1976 he joined the United States Air Force where he received formal training in information technology and met his future wife Sue. When his military obligation was over he moved to Minnesota with his wife and earned an Associated Degree from a local technology college and worked in the technology field until joining Parsons and beginning his electrical construction career in 2000. Perry has held the positions of estimator, project manager, senior project manager, and recently served as the division manager of Parsons' Southwest Office in Phoenix, AZ before returning home to Minneapolis to assume his current roles at Parsons. Perry has been married to his wife Sue of 33 years and has three children and three grandchildren.
